City National Bank – Oakland

Location: Oakland, California, USA

Client: City National Bank

Johnson Fain designed and developed the interior architecture for a new 2,500 square foot City National Bank branch in the heart of downtown Oakland, California. Located in a newly renovated historic building, the branch is easily accessed by public transportation and provides a valuable resource for this vibrant community.

Embracing a modern approach, the interiors have been thoughtfully crafted to reflect City National Bank’s focus on relationship-based banking. The client-facing areas are designed to enhance the banking experience and foster meaningful connections. Traditional teller lines have been replaced with a concierge-style approach where banking colleagues sit at individual desks with clients in comfortable guest seating. An approachable high-topped meeting table and digital screen near the entry provides branch colleagues with the opportunity to interact collaboratively with clients. The program includes private offices, a conference room, break room, copy/print room and staff restroom. A secure, 24-hour ATM vestibule at the entry is separated from the branch by an operable glass wall which fully retracts during banking hours, creating an unobstructed view from the entry into the bank.

The light-filled interior space features ceiling heights up to 20 feet. The palette is warm and inviting, with a dynamic patterned feature wall and ceiling of finely-grained oak. Custom pendant lighting, accents of blackened metal, and colorful details reinforce the City National Bank retail experience.
