The Blessed Sacrament Chapel of the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica was completed for the Calvo family in Agana, Guam. In designing the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Johnson Fain sought to maximize the flexibility of space, while providing a dignified and serene environment for contemplation and prayer. The formal access to the Cathedral transept acknowledges the primacy of Guam’s Mother Church in the plan. The second entrance and covered porch provides an alternate access which overlooks the Plaza de Espana. The color scheme of the interior is derived from the pink corals of rosary beads used on Guam, and complements the rose hues of the adjoining chapel.
