The master plan for Chadwick School is a guide to future development for the 70-year old Palos Verdes K-12 campus. Predicated on the eventual construction of a new entry drive, the plan proposes a flexible menu of development options to accommodate a number of alternative futures. Overall planning principles for the 55-acre campus include simplifying and minimizing the vehicular circulation system, thereby enhancing the integration of the campus with its natural setting as a laboratory for science, ecology and sustainability studies. After evaluating a series of physical alternatives, the School elected a hybrid plan with 15- and 30-year time horizons.
The plan fosters construction of new buildings of modular design of relatively modest size, incrementally over time. This decision not only conveys great flexibility for future planning, but also makes best use of donor funds as they become available. The plan proposes a new campus center focused on student life, as well as a center for new media and information technology.
