Johnson Fain has completed a 58,000 square foot expansion to the Opus One Winery in Napa Valley, California.  The enhancements include an exclusive VIP Tasting Room, an intimate Reserve Library looking into the Grand Chai where first year barrels are on display, public tasting rooms that open to a veranda, new production spaces and administrative areas.  Joan Behnke collaborated on the interior design and selected furnishings.  The design team took inspiration from the original design, completed by Johnson Fain in 1989, while creating fresh opportunities to experience the singular vineyard setting.  Design elements reflect a unity of winemaking, food and artful living.

Interior design elements of the new upper level Partners’ Room include subtly fossilized limestone floors, creamy limestone walls and a textured rough-sawn hemlock ceiling which continues outdoors to float above the veranda. Walls are glass to frame the views to the vineyard and the beautiful Napa Valley landscape beyond. Skylights bring soft light into the elegant interior space, which features rich walnut millwork and dark bronze metal accents. The outdoor veranda with its glass rail allows guests to enjoy uninterrupted views while tasting Opus One wine.
