Gallo Sonoma Estate Cellars is set on the northern edge of a 6,000 acre vineyard in Healdsburg, Sonoma County, California. The 25,000 square foot winery is designed to accommodate a marketing, tasting, and visitor center for Gallo premium wines for the wine and restaurant industry. The building program graciously provides for a 10,000 square foot barrel storage area, tasting room, wine library, reception hall, kitchen, offices and extensive outdoor patios, terraces and natural gardens. The site plan of the building has been designed to incorporate the natural landscape, carefully saving the indigenous California oak trees. The building is uniquely nestled into the rolling hills deriving its design metaphors from the hills, trees and meadows of the surrounding landscape. The building form dissolves into the landscape of hills and native California oaks creating a series of curved walls and terraces that respond to the existing terrain. Reinforced concrete is the main structural material of the building with field stone, natural oak and glass used as the finish materials to visually represent the surrounding indigenous landscape.
